Maureen Denise McCormick, the sole daughter from Richard McCormick, and Irene McCormick, was born in Woodland Hills California on 5 August 1956. Her father taught at school, as did her mother, who was a domestic worker. Michael Dennis, Kevin and Dennis are her three elder brothers. McCormick began singing and performing at a very young age. In the year she turned 6, McCormick won at the Baby Miss San Fernando Valley competition. Pat Domigan from the Jack Wormser Agency then called her to ask whether the actress was looking to pursue a career in show business. McCormick was hired to star in her debut major part in 1964, in an tv commercial featuring Mattels most recent doll, Baby Pattaburp. She subsequently starred as Chatty Cathy in a commercial which was later adapted for the show Wind It Up And It's Breaks in The La Jolla Playhouse. The Brady Bunch McCormick's audition was in the company of over 1200 other kids who auditioned for the role of the eldest daughter to be a part of The Brady Bunch. The show starred Florence Henderson and Robert Reed newlyweds, who shared a blended-family. It lasted five years. In her memoir Heres the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice published in 2008 McCormick revealed that during the fifth season, she was close to losing her virginity due to her onscreen co-star and brother Barry Williams. In 2008, McCormick disclosed in her book, Here's the Story: Surviving Marcia and Finding My True Voice that during season five of the show, she was close to losing her virginity to actor Barry Williams.
